Inspiring Stories
Every month, the Vancouver Tourism Awards selects one individual, whose act of kindness and professionalism went above and beyond the call of duty - but our decision is never easy! We receive over 300 inspirational stories per month; here are some of the best.
“After I left Vancouver I realized I forgot my prescription glasses at a restaurant a few blocks from the Hotel. I spoke with Thomas and he went and picked up the glasses and mailed them to me in California! Very grateful. Way above and beyond.”
– Robert, California“Ashley has been lovely during my stay at the hotel. During my stay I decide to bike around the city after seeing the abundance of bike lanes in the city. While at Stanley Park I fell off my bike and injured by leg leaving me unable to walk properly. The reason I fell of my bike was due to the fact that I was playing Pokemon Go. When I told Ashley what had happened she felt great sympathy and kept me entertained while I was tucked in my room recovering by putting up “lure modules” so I can play Pokemon while resting in my room. It was great gesture that made me feel very welcome during my transition to the beautiful city of Vancouver.”
– Celal“I have had to stay at the hotel for several months now during the week. I wish to recognize my housekeeper Cai as she is absolutely amazing. She is very personable, kind caring and attentive to my needs and little quirks. She makes me feel like this is my home. It’s like a little community. I feel very welcome and special. Excellent service! Above and beyond attitude. Love her!”
- Candace, Coquitlam“After an extremely difficult evening of travel and heartbreak, I made contact with Kareem vis a the telephone. We were travelling with our dog, so to find a hotel at that time of night that accepted dogs was quite a challenge. Upon inquiring, Kareem replied “No we only take elephants.” Needless to say, I was stunned at first due to my zombie like state – however, we laughed and he injected some much needed laugher into my night. He honestly lightened my mood 100 times over. He should be recognized for his personality, sense of humor, and willingness to help when he has the opportunity.”
– Nicole, Prince Rupert“We were stranded in Stanley Park in the rain, both of us with mobility issues and unable to get a taxi. Enda came back after she finished work to check on us, make sure we were ok and then drove us back to our hotel.”
– Joyce, Ontario“My wife and I took the tour on a very wet day recently. Jenny was simply a positive light and kept our minds off the rain and focused on the wonderful food, architecture and other sites. After the tour finished, Jenny noticed we were a bit lost. She . . . insisted on walking with us until we were better set on our bearings to return to the hotel. Who does that? She spent her own time making sure we were comfortable getting home, in the wonderful rain! Jenny deserves any and all accolades she can be given. She was an incredible representative of your beautiful city and a strong reason to return.”
– Alan, California“I ended up having to leave earlier than expected and left a number of items in the room. When I called and asked about it I was put through to Remy and while on the phone with me was in the room, gathering the items. When I explained I couldn’t make it down and could she please courier the items to me she suggested that she bring them back to me on her own time to save me the cost of a courier. She met me to deliver my items and when she met me she was outstanding as a human being and employees representing the hotel.”
– Christine, BC“A guest arrived at my hotel and when asked for identification, realized he misplaced it while in Vancouver the night prior. After calling the hotel where he stayed and places where he and his wife were, we were able to locate the drivers license at the Commodore Bowling Lanes. I spoke with Jorin multiple times and he was always pleasant and empathetic with me towards this guest. Jorin picked up the guest’s license and was able to organize it to be sent over to Victoria the next day for the VERY appreciative guests. From my perspective it was also nice to be dealing with a polite industry colleague and we made the magic happen . . . which is what we do, right?”
- Connie, Victoria“Crissevda was helpful and pleasant every time we spoke with her giving information and directions for the mall, but she went above and beyond when we checked out, I wanted to purchase one of the hotel hairdryers. She spent 15 minutes trying to locate a new one in the box and find the price list. She did not give up and even went to housekeeping and got it herself. There was no request to small and she made us feel so welcome and valued.”
– Cindy, Oregon“My daughter and I were lost getting back to our condo and it was dark out. I miraculously found an angel on the corner, Marco, and he was so wonderful and walked us personally back! He’s a bright light to the earth and loves Vancouver and what he does. I hope he is commended for his excellence and as a true asset to the city of Vancouver.”
– Terri, Washington“After an extremely difficult evening of travel and heartbreak, I made contact with Kareem by the telephone.
